Bruce Telecom has added two additional “Fill the Fan for Good” food donation events, one in Saugeen Shores and one in Kincardine, following a successful Chesley event, read a recent Bruce Telecom media release.

Although many think of the holiday season as 'the most wonderful time of the year', for some families it is the most difficult time of the year. It is estimated that one in seven Canadians do not have access to the food they need to thrive.

Bruce Telecom is inviting the Saugeen Shores community to drop off non-perishable food and hygiene items at Rowlands Your Independent Grocer in Port Elgin on December 17 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. And in Kincardine on November 12 at No Frills between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

The goal for each event is to fill a Bruce Telecom service van with donations before the day is dark with donations going to local food banks. In Saugeen Shores, the items will be delivered to the Salvation Army Food Bank. 

“After we had tremendous success in Chesley with our 'fill the van' initiative, we decided to keep the momentum going. People were more than happy to be involved in supporting their community and we are hoping for the same success in Kincardine and Port Elgin," said Stephanie Brunato, Sales, Marketing and Customer Care Manager with Bruce Telecom.

“Once again, we’ll have music on and some refreshments all day long. And as before, every donation helps," Brunato added.

Across Canada, COVID-19 has increased already chronic levels of food insecurity in communities. It is estimated that demand for food relief has increased 20 to 40 per cent since March, with as many as 14.6 per cent of Canadians facing food concerns in their homes, concluded the release.
