T’was the day before Christmas,
And all through the streets,
A few creatures were romping,
And dressed festively.

Approximately $1,100 was raised during the 12th annual Reindeer Romp December 24. The annual event is hosted by Fitness Corner in Port Elgin.

Funds raised by the rompers will go to Bruce Shoreline Community Mental Health Team, a local branch of Grey Bruce Mental Health Association.

Fitness Corner owner Holly Vanderzwet said that not everyone who showed up for the Reindeer Romp are members of the gym but noted the “huge community support”.

“I just love that everybody gets in the spirit of it.” Vandezwet said she loves to dress up for Christmas and enjoyed everyone’s outfits. The weather was a bit mild and wet from the recent thaw, however, that didn't stop the runners from participating. “They come no matter what,” said Vanderzwet, who noted a large number of participating runners were from the Saugeen Shores Track & Field Club.

Vanderzwet warmed up the participants before they took part in the 2 or 5 kilometre run.

All told the run raised $1,100.
